Dear Colleagues & Friends,

Thank you for having participated in the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2024 held earlier this month in Bucharest! We are extremely grateful to you all for having attended the various events and contributed to the Summit in so many creative and inspiring ways.

During four days, we brought together over 800 heritage professionals, volunteers and enthusiasts from all over Europe.  From celebrating the laureates of the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2024 to engaging in high-level debates on responsible digital transition for and with cultural heritage as well as on the need to uphold quality principles related to heritage conservation and management, the Bucharest Summit addressed some of the most pressing challenges of relevance to Europe’s cultural heritage sites and stakeholders. This year’s Summit demonstrated an exemplary mobilisation of key players in the world of culture and cultural heritage, including representatives of EU Institutions, regional and local authorities, international organisations and hundreds of representatives of civil society organisations from Romania and the rest of Europe.

We would like to express our immense gratitude  to the President of Romania, H.E. Klaus Iohannis, for granting his High Patronage to our European Cultural Heritage Summit. Our special thanks go to a series of prominent personalities for having participated in the Summit: Prof. Dr. Sergiu Nistor, Presidential Advisor in representation of the President of Romania; Ms Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth;  Ms Raluca Turcan, Minister of Culture of Romania; and Mr Nicușor Dan, Mayor of Bucharest. They conveyed important addresses during the European Heritage Awards Ceremony in the magnificent Romanian Athenaeum (see photo above). We are also grateful for the attendance of the following special guests: Mr Nayden Todorov, Minister of Culture of Bulgaria; Mr Evtim Miloshev, Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria; and Mr Andrei Christol, Vice-Minister of Culture Moldova.

The European Cultural Heritage Summit 2024 was organised by Europa Nostra and our partners in Romania (see image below) in cooperation and with the support of the European Commission, through the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union for the European Heritage Awards and European Cultural Heritage Agora project as well as the Action Grant for the European Heritage Hub pilot project.

Last but not least, we would like to warmly thank each and every one of you for having joined us in Bucharest and for your valuable input during our Summit.
